What is it that makes these artists think that you (and most other execs in the music business) actually evaluate new music for the quality that it may or may not have?
Don’t they understand that the thing that matters to industry decision-makers is NUMBERS, then the music? That’s the true order of things today.
Ask Troy Carter, who got turned down by literally every single radio station in the country when shopping early Lady Gaga. He had to go get a substantial internet following for any “industry folks” to understand that she was a big deal.
Example #2: Maroon 5′s debut Songs About Jane, which had a very slow (1.5 years?) rise before they won New Artist of the Year – because industry folks often can’t hear a hit band when it comes across their desk. Even one as good as Maroon 5.
Their ears are numbed.
People will choose the hits. Not you. Not Morris or Iovine. If a new band turns millions of heads by farting on a drum head, industry folks will flock to them and find a slick way to talk about the cultural genius behind such a breakthrough sound. That’s it. That’s how it works now, with all of the noise and access that the internet provides.
So if you want to stop getting bad MP3s, you may want to state the ugliest truth of all: that numbers matter, and music is second. It’s a damn business. Take the romance out of it. The romance era ended right around 1997 when Napster came in.
Tell it like it is. Let would-be rockstars know that without a groundswell of support they cannot break through. The ones who make it on talent alone are so rare that they should simply sit in line for auditions for abominable shows like American Idol, the Voice, etc. Nationally televised karaoke contests. The rest need to go get a ton of fans. It’s indisputable evidence, and it’s the only thing that will resonate with numb ears.

An exposé by the New Orleans Times-Picayune found that Louisiana incarcerates more people per capita than any other state or country in the world. One out of every 86 adults is behind bars, which is nearly double the U.S. average.

This means Louisiana’s prison rate is nearly three times higher than Iran’s, seven times more than China’s, and 10 times that of Germany.

For African-Americans from New Orleans, one in 14 is in prison, and one out of seven is either in prison, on parole, or on probation.

Overall, Louisiana’s prison population has doubled over the past 20 years.

“The hidden engine behind the state’s well-oiled prison machine is cold, hard cash,” wrote Cindy Chang at the Times-Picayune. “A majority of Louisiana inmates are housed in for-profit facilities, which must be supplied with a constant influx of human beings or a $182 million industry will go bankrupt.”

For-profit prison operators include several “homegrown” companies, as well as many of the state’s rural sheriffs, especially those in remote parishes like Madison, Avoyelles, East Carroll, and Concordia.

“A good portion of Louisiana law enforcement is financed with dollars legally skimmed off the top of prison operations,” Chang reported.

RUSSIAN TROOPS IN DENVER Why Denver? According to reports, the U.S. and Russian military will be using U.S. weapons to “take and hold” the main facilities of the CIA and Denver International Airport in Colorado and the National Security Agency in Utah. “This announcement comes at a time when Russia actually has troops working in cooperation with China,” points out Business Insider’s Eloise Lee, making reference to one of the largest ever Russian-Sino naval drills currently underway in the Yellow Sea. Not known to many Americans is that over the past decade both the CIA and NSA have transferred their main bases of operations to the Western US. The CIA announced their transfer to Denver in 2005 with many speculating their main base of operations has been placed beneath the Denver International Airport. The NSA, likewise, has transferred their main base of operation to Utah and created what is now called the United States biggest spy center in Bluffdale.WHAT ARE THE MOTIVES Is the NATO Summit and US/Russia Drill a test run to practice getting the “elites” to underground safety at the Denver New World (Order) airport when the SHTF? What are the ulterior motives for inviting and training Russian troops on US soil. The obvious motive is preparing for martial law. Foreign troops would have no problem shooting Americans during an insurrection. Are foreign troops being trained in martial law to carry out gun confiscations and incarcerate American citizens? The following quote from Henry Kissinger was made at the 1991 Bilderberg conference in Evian, France.

“Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful,”

Kelly McMillan, the CEO of McMillan Fiberglass Stocks, McMillan Group International, and McMillan Firearms Manufacturing, recently wrote on his Facebook page that Bank of America has refused to do business with his companies because they sell firearms. Bank of America admitted its decision was political. McMillan’s response was to immediately stop doing business with Bank of America.

Here is Mr. McMillan’s post:

McMillan Fiberglass Stocks, McMillan Firearms Manufacturing, McMillan Group International have been collectively banking with Bank of America for 12 years. Today Mr. Ray Fox, Senior Vice President, Market Manager, Business Banking, Global Commercial Banking came to my office. He scheduled the meeting as an “account analysis” meeting in order to evaluate the two lines of credit we have with them. He spent 5 minutes talking about how McMillan has changed in the last 5 years and have become more of a firearms manufacturer than a supplier of accessories.

At this point I interrupted him and asked “Can I possible save you some time so that you don’t waste your breath? What you are going to tell me is that because we are in the firearms manufacturing business you no longer what my business.”
“That is correct” he says.

I replied “That is okay, we will move our accounts as soon as possible. We can find a 2nd Amendment friendly bank that will be glad to have our business. You won’t mind if I tell the NRA, SCI and everyone one I know that BofA is not firearms industry friendly?”

“You have to do what you must” he said.

“So you are telling me this is a politically motivated decision, is that right?”

Mr Fox confirmed that it was. At which point I told him that the meeting was over and there was nothing let for him to say.

I think it is import for all Americans who believe in and support our 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms should know when a business does not support these rights. What you do with that knowledge is up to you. When I don’t agree with a business’ political position I can not in good conscience support them. We will soon no longer be accepting Bank of America credit cards as payment for our products.

It is nice to see a company taking a stand against the banksters on principle, especially when that principle is one of the cornerstones of the Constitution.

If you’re gonna be with guy [Diddy] who killed Tupac, you can’t go turn around and do a record [called] ‘Tupac Back’…Rick Ross is a grown a$$ n*gga. I’ll beat the dog sh*t out of Rick Ross for manipulating these people out here.“
